Samsung Will Stop Messing With Windows Update

Samsung has made a U-turn and has promised to unblock Windows update in the next few days.

It was earlier reported that SW update had been distributing a file with the name 'Disable_Windowsupdate.exe' which, as the name suggest, disables Windows update.

Initially, it was implied that updates from Microsoft were blocked simply because they clashed with Samsung drivers but unfortunately, there were some essential security patches which were caught in this net as well.

The company recently made a complete U-turn on its policy and will be removing this blockade completely.

The company issued a statement in which it said that it had made a commitment as far as security was concerned and that they would continue to value their relationship with Microsoft.

Samsung has also advised the customers to get in touch with customer care directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG if there's any thing related to updates.

Microsoft disabling the Windows update was brought to light by reverse engineer and debugger Patrick Barker. He contacted a Samsung customer service representative who told Barker that the USB 3 ports on laptops may stop working because of Windows Updates, that's why they needed to be disabled. It's not yet clear if this representative was informed or even authorized to make such a statement.
