FIFA President Sepp Blatter Says He Did Not Resign
Seventy nine year old Sepp Blatter who was thought have tendered his resignation on June 2 following a corruption scandal at FIFA, has now refused to step down.
In an interview to Blick, Blatter said, "I did not resign. I put myself and my office in the hands of the Fifa congress."
Blatter is currently considering to again stand for re-election for the post of FIFA President.
Authorities started two separate investigations into the corruption row a week after Blatter won his fifth consecutive term as President.
Four days later, Blatter who is being investigated by the FBI said, "While I have a mandate from the membership of Fifa, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football.
"Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa president until that election."
During this conference, he however did not use the words 'resignation' or resign'.
Labour MP Chris Bryant in response to Blatter's latest comments said, "Sepp Blatter's antics remind me not so much of the hokey-cokey as Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.
"It's time Fifa put an end to all this speculation, which is harming the sport, and give a final date for Blatter's departure."
A Fifa spokesperson while speaking on the issue said, "In terms of the Fifa president and the Fifa secretary general, their future travel plans will be confirmed in due course."
