Dropbox has announced a new milestone: 400 million users. The company also announced that there are now 50 countries around the world in which at least 1 million individuals have Dropbox accounts.

The cloud storage service syncs 1.2 billion files every day, creating over 100,000 new shared folders and links every hour. Users of the service also make 4,000 edits every second, and access the service at over 8 million businesses around the world.

"While it started off as a way to give people simple, secure access to their files anytime, anywhere, today Dropbox has become a place where people create amazing things together," a Dropbox spokesperson said. "There's a shift in how people are using our products: over a quarter of our users are using Dropbox to create, share, and collaborate on content."

However, it is still struggling with sales strategy, as most of the users of the service still fall under the free-tier.

"Dropbox has been around a long time now," and it's past due to figure out a business model, said Ben Thompson, an analyst at consultant Stratechery.

"We're kind of in the phase where, like, we've put our pick in the ground, and all this oil is coming up, and we've got to get it together here," he added.
