Fast and Furious 8 Casting News Update: Bombshell Eva Mendes Rumored to Return for Love Triangle
The eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise might feature returning actress Eva Mendes, according to the rumors.
These rumors are claiming that Mendes will be reprising her role as agent Monica Fuentes, who will be involved in a love triangle with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). Agent Fuentes appeared in "2 Fast 2 Furious" and had an instant connection with Paul Walker's Brian O'Connor. She also showed up in an un-credited cameo at the end of "Fast Five."
With O'Connor gone, due to Walker's untimely death and Ortiz' amnesia, which changed her into a different person, there is room for a Fuentes-Toretto romance. However, the exact plot for the movie remains unclear.
Diesel teased shortly after "Furious 7" was released, that the eighth movie will take place in New York.
Kurt Russell is also rumored to return to the franchise. Russell played a government agent named Mr. Nobody, who gets involved in the feud between Toretto and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), in "Furious 7." His role for the next movie is unknown.
Jordana Brewster, who plays Mia Toretto, Dominic's sister and O'Connor's wife, might not return to the franchise. In the final scene of "Furious 7," O'Connor and Mia drive off together to focus on their family.
"Furious 7," which many saw as a tribute movie to Walker, who died unexpectedly in a freak car accident in 2013, has grossed more than $1 billion in the box office worldwide. The movie is the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, after "Avatar," "Titanic" and "The Avengers." It is the highest-grossing film in 2015 so far and the highest grossing film in the Fast and Furious franchise.
