Freddie Mercury Walked Out on Musical Duet with MJ Due to Pet Chimp
The two iconic duos of the music world, Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson, were due to sing together but a chimp acted as spoilsport.
Freddie stormed out of the recording studio as he was annoyed with the presence of Bubbles, Michael Jackson's pet chimp, according to Contact Music.
The legends of rock and pop were to collaborate on 'There Must Be More To Life Than This' nearly 30 years ago, but the song remained incomplete as both could not agree on the 'little' matter of the chimp - one would not record in his presence and the other could not do without him in attendance.
A new book by showbiz writer David Wigg reveals, ''Freddie got very angry because Michael made Bubbles sit between them and would turn to the chimp between takes and ask, 'Don't you think that was lovely?' Or, 'Do you think we should do that again?' After a few days of this, Freddie just exploded ... 'I'm not performing with a f*****g chimp sitting next to me each night."
Wigg writes that Freddie rang up his manager and demanded he be freed from this "zoo." He then flew back to London.
'There Must Be More to Life Than This' was written by Freddie in 1981 and he worked on it with Michael in 1984 in Los Angeles.
Freddie's Queen bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor have now decided to go ahead and finish the incomplete track with producer William Orbit and the song will be a part of the new LP compilation 'Queen Forever'.
A version of the song appeared on Freddie's 1985 solo album 'Mr. Bad Guy' . Talking about the finished version Orbit said, "Hearing Michael Jackson's vocals was stirring. So vivid, so cool, and poignant, it was like he was in the studio singing live. With Freddie's vocal solo on the mixing desk, my appreciation for his gift was taken to an even higher level," reports Yahoo7News.
