Amazon has updated the Kindle Paperwhite with a new display, now at 300 pixels per inch and some new software features. The new models will start shipping from June 30.

300 ppi is twice as sharp as the last iteration and the equal for the more expensive Kindle Voyage that is available for $199. The new improved model of Kindle Paperwhite will be sold at the same price at which the current model is being sold, $119.

"We love inventing for readers," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. "The new Kindle Paperwhite obsesses over the details that matter most to readers - we've added our highest-resolution display so the words are crisp and clear on the page, a new font that is crafted exclusively for reading Kindle books, and a new typesetting engine that makes pages beautiful. Together, these details help you read faster and with less eyestrain, so you can lose yourself in the author's world."

The new Paperwhite also comes with the newly introduced Bookerly font that Amazon claims is a "warm and contemporary" font "designed from the ground up for reading on digital screens."

Amazon is also claiming improvements like hyphenation to break words "at the right place", improved character placement and spacing between words, enhanced page layout, and a better reading experience when using large fonts in the new Kindle Paperwhite.

The new Paperwhite is available for preorder today.
