‘Jurassic World’ Sets New Box Office Record, Star Chris Pratt Signed on for ‘38’ Sequels
Even thought dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years, they are still very relevant.
Universal Studios' "Jurassic World" had a massive opening over the weekend. The fourth film in the series about dinosaurs brought in $511.8 million globally, which is the highest opener for any movie throughout the world. Domestically, the action-packed thriller brought in $204.6 million. The movie is second on the all-time highest domestic opening behind Marvel's "The Avengers," which totaled $207.4 million in 2012.
With this much success, Universal is already thinking about sequels and lead actor Chris Pratt is reportedly signed on to any future projects.
Pratt sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the movie.
The "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor said, "Working with him [Steven Spielberg] and having him be a peer now is pretty remarkable. He's a guy who's an icon. I was never a film buff as a kid. I liked to entertain people and I liked comedy and I liked to escape with a movie now and then, but I knew who Steven Spielberg was. He was the first real celebrity director. Like the director you'd go see his movie because it was his movie. And Jurassic Park was a big event for me."
Pratt also recalled getting the movie pitch from director Colin Trevorrow while he was working on "Guardians of the Galaxy."
"He was really going off of what he knew from Parks and Rec and Zero Dark Thirty. It was really more the Zero Dark Thirty character. The character from Jurassic is like a combat veteran, like a spec ops guy, so I could do that and still have a little goofiness. So he gave me the pitch," he said. "I liked Colin so much because he's a straight shooter. He just tells you the truth. He's so transparent.
When asked if he was signed on to any sequels, Pratt revealed, "I am. They have me for I think 38 movies or something."
"Jurassic World" is the third major hit film for Universal this year. Universal's "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Furious 7" dominated the box office during their respective opening weekends.
