This 20-Foot Female Shark Shows What Being The 'Great White' Means

A massive Great White Hi-Fiving a diver has caught the Internet's fancy. The shark in a footage that has gone viral ever since it was posted earlier this month is said to be longer than 20 foot.

Named Deep Blue, the shark was filmed last year by a team of researchers off Gaudalupe Island, off Mexico coast. Recently, footage of the shark that was captured last year was posted online by Mauricio Hoyos Padilla, one of the team's researchers. The video shows a diver touching the big fish's fin after it snaps at his open-top cage.

However Live Science which had the scoop behind the footage explained that the diver was trying to push the shark away from the cage as he had noticed a cut on its side.

"It was really close to the cage, and they have pointy ends. It is so big it couldn't turn properly. So he was trying to push her away, because he didn't want her to get hurt," Padilla reportedly told Live Science.

Given the size of the shark it is one of the largest ever to be sighted. However Padilla and his team know that Deep Blue is not an exception in waters of Gaudalupe Island. The researchers theorize that female sharks arrive in the waters to feed on elephant seals which weigh about a ton. This diet could be driving the sharks' size. As for Deep Blue's unusual girth, Padilla thinks she is pregnant!
