‘Ghostbusters’ Movie Cast Update: Chris Hemsworth Signs on as the Receptionist
Chris Hemsworth, famous for playing the hammer-wielding deity, Thor, is officially joining the all-female lead Ghostbusters film. The tall and hunky 31-year-old Australian actor will play the receptionist.
The movie's director, Paul Feig, announced the news by posting a picture of PEOPLE's 2014 Sexist Man Alive with the caption, "Our receptionist. #whoyougonnacall."

Feig also co-wrote the script with Katie Dippold. The plot details for the remake are unknown. All that is known so far is that Feig decided to gender-swap all of the roles. The original receptionist, Janine Melnitz, was played by Annie Potts in 1984.
Variety reported that Hemsworth initially passed up on one of the film's male roles because it was too small. The magazine cited sources stating that the role has since been "beefed up" by Sony.
The original four leads, who were Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, have been replaced by comedians/actresses Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
The initial plan for "Ghostbusters III" was to reunite the original cast and pick up where the story left off. However, due to several factors, such as Murray's noncommittal stance and Ramis's death, the project went into a different direction.
The 1984 version was directed by Ivan Reitman, who is producing this latest installment. It made nearly $300 million worldwide.
Production for the movie is scheduled to start later this summer. The movie will hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
