Anthony Riley's Death Update: ‘The Voice’ Contestant Hanged Himself In His Basement
Former The Voice Season 8 Contestant Anthony Riley died because of suicide, the medical examiner who conducted postmortem tests, confirmed.
A report from The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office via People released a report days after the singer's death on June 5 saying that the musician committed suicide and hanged himself that lead to his end.
His body was later found in the basement of his apartment building in Center City.
It can be remembered that the 28-year old musician stunned the four judges of the singing competition making them all turned their seats in the first few seconds of his rendition of James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)."
Amidst the judges' clamor to get him in their teams, he ended up choosing Pharrell Williams.
Billboard remembered that Riley dropped out from the show's battle rounds in February to take part of a two-week rehab program to overcome substance abuse.
It was also learned that the musician has no intention in undertaking the next battle rounds nor participating in any of the show's auditions in the future, AV Club reports.
Once, Anthony shared his struggles with substance abuse further saying that leaving the show is a hard decision that he had to make, The Independent said.
"It's tough, because everyone's just finding out and I've been moving forward," he said.
The street singer also had trouble coping with pressure and stress of the show's trainings.
"At the time, [being on the show] wasn't working for me and I felt like I needed to go, instead of taking on more responsibility than I could handle," he once told Philadelphia Inquirer via CNN.
