Matt Damon Reprising Role of ‘Jason Bourne’ in Upcoming Bourne Movie

Matt Damon, the "Bourne" series actor confirmed that he will be returning to reprise his role of "Jason Bourne" in the upcoming installment of the super hit movie series.

Damon will be reuniting with director Paul Greengrass for the movie that is slated to release in 2016.

"Yes, next year," Damon clarified to E!Online. "It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes," he added.

A few months earlier, several outlets reported that Damon would not be returning for another "Bourne" movie much to the disappointment of fans. Producers also confirmed that Damon wasn't signed on for the next Bourne movie.

Damon, however, said that he was "open" to doing another "Bourne" movie if Greengrass was directing the film.

In a previous interview with Deadline, Greengrass said he didn't have another "Bourne" movie and he had exhausted all his expertise in the previous two movies.

"I discovered in my heart I didn't have another one in me. I would be going through the motions and I could never do that. On the first two Bourne films, I gave 1000 percent commitment. I was full of new ideas when I came in and took over, I knew there were things I could do and had a vision," Greengrass said.

Commenting on the fact that Damon wouldn't do another Bourne without him, Greengrass said:

"I sure did agonize. I owe Universal and that franchise a great debt, and your instinct is to want to serve the studio. But you get to a place where the desire to serve the studio conflicts with your own desire to move on and stake out new ground."

But now that the duo is returning for another sequel, fans are excited. Because a "Bourne" movie is never the same without Jason Bourne.

"I loved the bourne movies with Matt Damon I still watch them all the time .... I tried to watch the last one with that other guy and it sucked I could only watch about 20 min of it and I had enough....if u are not going to use MD then just quit making bourne movies, people want to see Matt in the part he is JASON BOURNE NO MATT I WILL NOT WATCH ANOTHER BOURNE MOVIE," a comment on the E!Online story read.
