10 Feet Long Nest with 400,000 Wasps Found in South Carolina

A huge wasp nest that was found in a folded camper near Moncks Corner in South Carolina has been touted as the largest nest to be unloaded in the region.

"The owner lifted this 7×10 pop-up camper with a tow motor and actually broke the nest and determined he had bees," Eric McCool of the McCool Wildlife Control & Bee Extractions told local ABC affiliate WCIV.

According to Daily Mail, Robert McDougal of Hurry Up Towing did not know that there was a 10 feet long nest in his storage yard. As soon as he lifted the fold-down camper with the help of a forklift, he saw the nest, American Live Wire reports.

The nest contained about 400,000 yellow wasps. He immediately informed the pest control department. However, the surprising fact is even as he sat there for almost 20 minutes waiting for the pest control team, not even one wasp stung him. Eric McCool and his team came soon and cleared the wasp nest.

McCool has been in the business of clearing hives for the past 19 years.

"I had to go inside and pull all the paper, all the hive and all the brood. It was pretty insane and quite the adrenaline rush. The bee's nest was underneath the bench, inside the cabinets, all over the stove it was everywhere," he said.

According to Associated Press, TribTown.com reports, yellow jacket nests are rarely that huge. In the 1990s, a trash can-sized nest was found in Charleston County and it was estimated that it was home to around 250,000 worker bees.
