Online 'Moron' Terrorist Selfie In Front Of ISIS Centre Draws US Air Force Bomb
One terrorist actually took a selfie and posted it online. It helped the U.S. Intelligence, which carefully looks at social media accounts from ISIS members and supporters, to identify an ISIS headquarters building in Syria with the help of the selfie photo as a reference point.
The Air Force General Hawk Carlisle said that airmen from Hurlburt Field, Florida in the 361st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group were the first to pick up on the photo, according to gizmodo.
"The guys that were working down out of Hurlburt, they're combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command," explained Carlisle. "And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, ISIL. And these guys go: 'We got an in.' So they do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out."
It is clear that the ISIS notoriously exploits the social media for recruitment. With a reach of about 200,000 viewers on Twitter and other sites, it has roped in roughly 3,400 westerners and at least 200 Americans to its ranks, according to cnn.
But now, fortunately, even the US Air Force is searching the organization's social media in order to pick out pictures that match the images online.
