NBA Finals: Cavaliers Kyrie Irving Re-injures Knee, Warriors to Win it all?
The Cleveland Cavaliers might have to rethink their game if they want to win the 2015 NBA Finals.
In Game 1 of the finals between the Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving re-injured his left knee in overtime. Right before the 2:00 minute mark, Irving tired to drive on guard Klay Thompson and slipped. Irving had to limp his way into the locker room. The Cavs scored only two points in OT and lost 108-100.
Prior to the injury, Irving, who just came back from left knee tendinitis and a sprained right foot, was dominant on the court. He scored 23 points and had seven rebounds and six assists.
"He's with the doctors right now being evaluated," head coach David Blatt said. "I can't give you any specifics yet. We just don't know."
Irving spoke with the media briefly after the game and confirmed that he aggravated his left knee. He did not say whether or not he would be available for Game 2 but admitted that he is "a little worried." Irving added that he will be taking everything one day at a time.
"It was very tough to see," teammate LeBron James, who finished the night with 44 points and six assists, said. "I just see how hard he worked these last eight days just to get himself to play at this level tonight. Seeing him walk out of the locker room on crutches just now, that's a tough blow for our team."
James added, "It's the next man up. If Kyrie can't go, Delly's [Matthew Dellavedova] number is going to be called and everyone else has to pick each other up."
Game 2 will be on June 7 at 8 pm. ET on ABC.
