World's Second Most Popular Wearable Is Mi Band, Fitbit Leads
World's second most popular wearable is Mi Band, by Xiaomi, in terms of shipments, according to a recent report from IDC. The Mi Band is a $15 product that hit the market last August in mainland China, spreading to India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
This week it also hit US and European shores.
But what makes it so popular? Most probably the price tag. Fitbit, the no. 1 wearable maker, had products in the market since 2009 and prices its trackers from $60 to $250, costly if compared to Mi Band.
The Mi Band tracks sleep, steps, and also pairs with a phone for some basic notifications.
Notably, Mi Band is not actually a Xiaomi product. It is made by Huami Technologies, a separate company with its own CEO.
