Facebook rolls out new feature to make it easier to control News Feed
In a bid to give their users more control over their network, Facebook announced Friday the company will add new controls to users' News Feeds that will offer more options on which friends and which content will appear.
The News Feed settings menu, which appears in the Facebook apps and on the web, displays which friends appear most often in your News Feed and which friends you've chosen to unfollow.
"What you do in News Feed helps determine what you see in News Feed," Facebook emphasized today. "You decide who you want to connect to, and what Pages and public figures you want to follow."
The changes take effect today on desktop, and will roll out to mobile devices in the coming weeks. The News Feed change is the latest tweak to Facebook's service.
Last month, Facebook rolled out updated photo uploads so users can easily post several images from their phone in one update.
Greg Marra, a Facebook Product Manager, wrote about these changes in a blog post:
"News Feed settings will now show a list of the top people, Pages and Groups that you've seen in your News Feed over the past week. You can choose to sort by people, Pages or Groups posts, or see an overall summary. Unfollow any friend, Page or Group if you don't want to see their stories in your News Feed. You can also see who you've unfollowed in the past and can choose to re-follow them at anytime."
With the latest changes, it will also be easier to unfollow and refollow friends directly from the news feed.
The world's largest social network has also started promoting options to "unfollow" or see fewer posts from a person, for people who prefer not to unfriend them on the social network.
