One of the most interesting service that Google announced at the recent I/O conference was Google Photos, which offers unlimited storage for photos and videos. The app, initially was only available for our smartphones, limiting us to backup photos only from our handheld devices.

However, this is going to change as the search giant recently unveiled the desktop app for the Google Photos. The web app will ensure that the interested users can backup their photos even from the computers.

However, the only caveat is that the Google Photos will only store photos up to 16MP. Beyond that it will crunch photos, which might lead to a minimal degradation in the image quality. If you want to store photos in full resolution, i.e., > 16 MP, you can opt for Google Drive, for which you will have to pay after reaching a threshold.

To start using the desktop version of Google Photos, download the application from photos.google.com/apps and select Desktop Uploader" from the left side of the screen; the application will then begin to download and should be installed. To begin uploading your photos, sign into your Google account; after you successfully login, you will be prompted with a window asking which folders you wish to upload. Once you select the desired folders, all the included photographs will be quickly uploaded to the cloud.
