Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors: Close to Promoting Corey Seager?
The Los Angeles Dodgers might promote Corey Seager to the majors sooner than later, rumors claimed.
The young top prospect reportedly impressed the Dodgers and catcher Yasmani Grandal, who spent three days with triple-A Oklahoma City on rehabilitation assignment.
"It looks like he's hitting BP [batting practice]," Grandal, who should be activated on Saturday after being on the disabled list due to a seven-day concussion, said. "At least he did when I was there."
Grandal added, "I think his end-game swings for base hits were better than if he were taking BP out on the field. It was pretty impressive. He wasn't missing a pitch down there, no matter if you threw it lefty or righty. It didn't matter. Really impressed by him. He's got really good hands at short, too. He made a couple of good plays up the middle. But the bat really impressed me. Not too many guys go six for six and miss a cycle because he hit the ball too hard."
The 21-year-old shortstop, Seager, who is considered the best prospect in the Dodgers farm system, went 6 for 6 with six RBIs (runs batted in) against the Salt Lake City Bees. In the four-game series, Seager went 13 for 18 with three homers, 10 RBIs, four doubles and six runs.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had good things to say about the young player as well.
"To me, you can throw the kid in the big leagues right now. He'd be fine. But he's got to hit his stretches where he struggles, and it's really letting him go through the development part," Mattingly said. "All of us know he can play. All of us know what this kid is capable of. Until the last four or five days he'd struggled there. Then all of a sudden he hits two homers, gets four hits, gets six hits and all of a sudden he's figured it out. I don't think it's a true surprise...I don't think there's anything surprising about Corey, and just how good this kid is. He's been given all the attention. Minor leagues ... we got to see him in spring training and he was impressive in spring. It's just a matter of, I think, making sure his development is complete. We go from there."
Seager was just promoted to triple-A on May 1.
