Clint Eastwood is set to direct 'Miracle on the Hudson' that is based on the Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger's memoirs.

The heroic pilot landed a US flight on the Hudson River in 2009 and managed to save 155 lives in the process.

The screenplay has been adapted from the pilot's memoirs "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters".

Sullenberg became a national hero as a result of his action and was also wooed by many political parties to run for public office.

When asked about the Eastwood's appointment as director, Sullengerber said, ''I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall.

''The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team.''

''Simply put, Clint Eastwood is at the top of his game, not to mention a global treasure.

''On the heels of his extraordinary work in 'American Sniper', it is tremendously exciting to see him explore the life of another captivating true-life hero.

''It is also great to be collaborating with Frank Marshall and Allyn Stewart to produce this compelling script by Todd Komarnicki.''

On January 15, 2009, Sullenberg's flight experienced mechanical failure after many birds were caught in the plane's engines causing it to malfunction.

With the nearest airfield being too far away, Sullenberg was forced to initiate an emergency landing on the Hudson River. The passengers and crews were later rescued by nearby ships.
