Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch Hits the Market for $100 Million
Michael Jackson's former California home, Neverland Ranch has been listed at $100 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The home of the late legendary popstar, which is now known as Sycamore Valley Ranch, has been transformed. On the 2,700-acre property, people will not find some of Jackson's most outrageous amenities, such as the mini amusement park and the animals.
The items that are still present, according to Suzanee Perkins of Sotheby's International Realty, who shares the listing with Sotheby's Harry Kolb and Hilton & Hyland's Jeffrey Hyland, include a llama, the floral clock with "Neverland" spelled out, the Neverland Valley Fire Department building, the railroad tracks and the train station.
"There is obviously a lot of affection for him and his talent," said Randall Bell, a specialist in valuing stigmatized properties with Laguna Beach-based consulting firm Bell Anderson & Sanders, according to the Los Angeles Times. "But it's hard to get by the fact that Neverland is closely associated with child molestation. I think $100 million is very optimistic."
The main house is about 12,000 square feet and has six bedrooms with attached quarters for the staff. There is a four-bedroom guesthouse near the main home, which sits between two lakes. There is also a cabana near the pool, a barbecue area and a basketball and tennis court.
Jackson bought the home in 1988 for $19.5 million and slowly added amenities. He lived there for 15 years before he was forced to seek a joint venture due to his financial problems.
The "Thriller" singer eventually stayed away from the property after 2005, when he was acquitted from charges that he sexually molested children at the Neverland Ranch.
