Ben & Jerry's Rolls Out New 'Save the Climate' Ice-Cream Flavor

Ben & Jerry's rolled out a new ice cream flavor on Wednesday with a name that is seeking to raise awareness.

The Huffington Post reports the flavor, "Save Our Swirled," is part of a campaign to raise awareness on climate change. Not only was 2014 recorded as the warmest year ever, but President Barack Obama also declared climate change a national threat.

"Our goal is for international leaders to work towards 100% Clean Energy by 2050. This ambitious goal is in line with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC's) stated need for the elimination of all carbon pollution within the next 85 years."

Save Our Swirled is already available in Ben & Jerry's scoop shops, where the pints' labels have the usual fair trade logo as well as an icon of a cow in a scarf and red sweater labeled "SOS," holding up a sign that says, "If it's melted, it's ruined!" Having gone completely GMO-free earlier this year, the social-justice-minded, Burlington, Vt.-based company is looking to reduce its environmental footprint further.

The flavor is available now in U.S. stores and scoop shops. It will arrive in Europe by September and Asia by the end of 2015, the Yahoo! Food adds.
