NBA Playoffs 2015: Stephen Curry Passed 2 Concussion Tests, Expected to be Healthy for Game 5
Stephen Curry's fall in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets silenced and scared fans throughout the country.
When the 2014-15 NBA MVP returned to the game in the second half, many spectators were scratching their heads, wondering how Curry did not get suffer from a concussion. A concussion diagnosis would have sidelined him for the rest of the game and even the series.
However, Tim Kawakami from the San Jose Mercury News reported that the Warriors conducted two concussion protocols to be safe and Curry passed both of them.
Kawakami wrote, "There was a moment in the Warriors' locker room, almost an hour after Stephen Curry slammed his head against the floor, that he had passed every test and Game 4 was still going on. In fact, according to Warriors general manager Bob Myers, the team doctors made Curry duplicate the concussion protocols to be doubly sure."
After running the protocols twice, Curry had to run back and fourth in the hallway a few times to make sure that he definitely did not have any concussive symptoms.
"At the very, very end, when he passed the tests, then it became 'there's no reason he couldn't play," Myers explained. "So then it was, he passed the tests, passed them once, passed them twice...At that moment, he looked at me, said, 'Yeah, I'm ready to go.'"
Kawakami reported that the team was extra cautious when deciding whether or not Curry could return to the game. Curry's father, Dell Curry and co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber were all present.
After rejoining the team, head coach Steve Kerr also kept an eye on Curry.
Kerr said, "I asked him a couple of times if he was okay, he said yeah. As long as Steph says he's good to go and the doctors tell me he's cleared, I'm going to listen to that. They're the ones paid to do that, not me."
In the post-game interview, Curry stated that he felt fine. Curry is expected to play in Game 5, which takes place today, May 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Warriors lead the series 3-1.
