Spider Crawls Under Skin of Australian Man in Bali
A spider burrowed under the skin of a 21-year-old Australian man on holiday in Bali, Indonesia.
The tropical spider entered the body of Dylan Maxwell through an appendix scar and travelled up his torso leaving a red trail from his navel to his chest, reports Reuters. It stayed buried there for three days before it was removed.
Maxwell was prescribed an antihistamine for an insect bite initially at a hospital in Bali.
"Well after running tests and putting things inside my stomach they finally found out it was a tropical spider that's been living inside me for the last three days," Maxwell posted on his Facebook page.
"Haven't felt so violated in my life before! Just glad it's all over."
The spider was removed with tweezers by doctors in Australia on his return.
Maxwell goes by the name Dylan Thomas on his Facebook page and kept everyone posted on the progress of his unwelcome guest and was even up beat and joked about it.
"Still hoping I'm going to develop superpowers by the time I'm home," he wrote, referring to Spider-Man. "I'll be highly disappointed if I haven't . . . Until the next time catch you later Bali."
His ordeal has made him a media sensation and he said, he intended to enjoy the limelight. "I'm sure not a great deal of us can say they've had that happen so I'll take a lot out of it," he wrote. "Appreciate the messages and the nickname guys I think Spider-Man is going to stick for a long time."
