NBA Draft Rumors: Top Prospect Jahlil Okafor may ask the Timberwolves to Use their Pick on another Player
The Minnesota Timberwolves were beyond ecstatic when they won the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday. Despite getting the coveted selection, rumors are circulating that top prospect Jahlil Okafor from Duke University may ask the Timberwolves to draft another player.
Chuck Myron is reporting, according to Fansided that Okafor might have his eye on getting selected by the Los Angeles Lakers, who landed the second pick in the upcoming 2015 NBA draft.
Myron wrote, "I think Okafor might. There are rumors that he has his heart set on the Lakers... I wouldn't be surprised if he and his agent (a college buddy of Flip Saunders, Givony also pointed out) try to dissuade the Wolves from drafting him. That rarely works, though, and if the Wolves like him, they'll take him. For what it's worth, Towns seems more open to going wherever he's picked."
If the Timberwolves do not have their heart set on Okafor, they could end up picking Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns.
The Lakers reportedly have their eye on a big man and will pick either Anthony or Okafor. They will also look at D'Angelo Russell.
Jonathan Givony with Draftexpress.com wrote, "The Lakers will most definitely give long hard looks to Russell and [Emmauel] Mudiay as well, and either of those two could absolutely jump up and grab this spot with a highly impressive workout. The Lakers reportedly put more stock on their private workouts than possibly any team in the NBA, and Mudiay especially will come in with almost a perfectly clean slate. Look for the Lakers to work the phones hard to, at the very least, hear what's out there."
Givony and Chris Mannix with SI.com have the Lakers picking Okafor.
Okafor is projected to be a top three pick.
