Neil Patrick Harris To Host Oscars; Will he Beat Ellen?
Neil Patrick Harris, the "How I met Your Mother" star, is all set to host the Academy Awards 2015.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rolled out an official statement confirming Harris's role in the event.
"We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage," show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a joint statement.
But Harris had to break the news to his fans his way. He posted a swag video of himself on the phone where he is just heard saying "I'm In" and grinning ear to ear to say "That's Nice" and circles off the last thing on his bucket-list, which also has stuff like "write a book," "Meet the president" and "See a woman in Half" apart from several other things.
But how does Harris actually feel about it?
"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true," he said in a statement.
Last year's Oscars saw its viewership reaching to record highs with several iconic moments (the Oscar selfie and pizza sharing) that went down in the ceremony's history. Will Harris beat what DeGeneres created on-stage?
People think yes!
This is not the first time Harris will take the stage to emcee an award show. He has already hosted the Tony Awards four times and the Emmy Awards twice.
"Neil is a terrific actor, singer, risk-taker and collaborator. We can't wait to see the show that he and Craig and Neil create together," Dawn Hudson, Academy CEO added in the statement.
The 87th Academy Awards will be held February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on ABC.
