Where in the world are the people most sexually satisfied?

In a global survey conduced by Durex, the researchers examined people's levels of sexual satisfaction throughout the world. AlterNet used the results and created a list of the top 12 countries where the people were the happiest with their sex lives and these nations did not include the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

At the very top of the list was Switzerland, followed by Spain and Italy. Here is the full list:

1. Switzerland

2. Spain

3. Italy

4. Brazil

5. Greece

6. Netherlands

7. Mexico

8. India

9. Australia

10. Nigeria

11. Germany

12. China

The survey reached 26,000 people who were aged 16 and older. The participants were from 26 countries.

From the data, the researchers found that only 44 percent of the people from the sample were fully satisfied with their sex lives. They also found that people who reported good mental and physical health and did not have sexual dysfunction were more likely to be sexually satisfied. Other factors that increased sexual satisfaction included being stress-free and having frequent sex and foreplay.

The researchers added, "Achieving orgasm is a key driver of sexual satisfaction. Just 48 per cent of us said that they usually orgasm. Globally, twice as many men (64 per cent) as women regularly have orgasms. Maintaining an erection and having enough lubrication to enjoy sex is another important component according to our findings. 34% of women questioned have, at some point in their lives, experienced vaginal dryness; 24% of men have reported difficulties getting an erection and 29% have had problems sustaining one."

The study concluded, "We hope the findings from our survey have been both interesting and relevant. Hopefully it will give you a better idea of how to achieve ultimate satisfaction. It's a combination of both physical and emotional elements and having an understanding of what works best for you. For most of us this may be injecting some fun and adventure back into our sex lives. What this study does prove is that frequency of sex isn't the key driver of sexual satisfaction."
