WSJ: Google Introducing 'Buy' Buttons In Search Results

Google is adding 'buy' buttons in some of the search results on its mobile app, according to a report by Wall Street Journal.

The feature will only be applied to some sponsored search result, which a company pays for and not to 'organic' search results, which are generated by Google's algorithm.

If users tap on the buy button, they're taken to a Google product page where they can complete the purchases and sort through details like color selection and size for clothes, CNET noted.

According to experts, the move will directly affect the businesses of Amazon and eBay. It's also the latest example of Google stretching the bounds of its search engine business to e-commerce.

Google leads the marker in mobile search revenue, but for buying products users still tend to go to apps like Amazon, eBay or local business company Yelp.

Recently, Google announced that searches on mobile devices outnumber searches on desktop computers in 10 countries, including the United States and Japan.

To help preserve part of that connection, Google will allow consumers to opt in to the same marketing programs they would be exposed to had they bought the item on retailers' own sites, the Wall Street Journal report said.
