Fidel Castro: Russia and China Are The World's 'Mighty Shield' of Peace And Security
The Cuban Revolution leader, Fidel Castro, hailed Russia and China as the "mighty shield" of peace and global security, in an article for the Cuban newspaper, Granma, on the 70th anniversary commemorating the Allied victory over Nazi Germany.
He wrote that "the two great powers," Moscow and Beijing, can stop the dangerous global trends that are posing a threat to mankind, according to sputnik.
"The deep alliance of the peoples of the Russian Federation and China based on advanced science, strong army and the brave soldiers is capable of ensuring the survival of mankind," the Cuban revolutionary leader noted.
Appreciating his brother Raul Castro's visit to Moscow to attend the Victory Day Parade, Moscow, on May 9, Fidel wrote: "In relation to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, I want to express my deepest admiration for the heroic Soviet people, who stand in gigantic stayer to humanity. Twenty several million Soviet citizens who died in the Great Patriotic War gave their lives for the sake of all mankind."
After retiring from active office in 2006 due to his waning health, Fidel Castro has kept a low public profile. He pens an occasional opinion column for dailies and hosts dignitaries for private consultation sometimes.
French President Francois Hollande visited Havana. He exclaimed that Castro had a "a lot to say," and demonstrated intellectual acuity and alertness, according to nytimes.
