George Zimmerman, the man acquitted in 2013 of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, has reportedly been shot in the face but not seriously injured during an apparent road rage incident in Florida, according to reports.

Attorney Don West says a bullet missed Zimmerman's head in Monday's shooting in the Orlando suburb of Lake Mary, the Associated Press reported on Monday.

West said his client was sprayed with glass from his vehicle's windshield after being involved in a shooting. Zimmerman's injuries were not serious and he has been released from the hospital.

"His injuries would be considered minor," West said. "The bullet missed his head. I think it broke a window and lodged in his vehicle."

The photograph below from a local Florida television station appeared to show a bullet hole in the passenger window of his grey truck.

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman in Sanford, Fla., shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in 2012. Florida prosecutors tried to convict Zimmerman of state-level murder and manslaughter charges, but in July 2013 a jury acquitted him, saying prosecutors didn't have enough evidence to prove their case.

Zimmerman allegedly threatened to kill a man during a September 2014 road rage incident but was not prosecuted after the man declined to press charges.

He was carrying a gun during the incident and allegedly told the man: "I'll f***ing kill you."

Zimmerman has repeatedly found himself in hot water with the police. He was arrested again in January of this year on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend but no charges were brought by local prosecutors.
