Arizona patient drove stolen ambulance home: Report
An Arizona patient at a hospital escaped by using an ambulance as a getaway car, according to a report.
According to the Azcentral, Michael Lopez stole a Buckeye Valley Fire District ambulance parked outside a West Valley hospital and drove it to his Avondale home.
Patient Michael Lopez "escaped" the hospital and stole the ambulance that was parked outside, Goodyear police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis said.
A firefighter in the back safely jumped out, and police were eventually able to track the ambulance down at Lopez's home using GPS.
Kutis says Lopez was arrested on felony flight, failure to yield to police, disorderly conduct, and theft of means of transportation, and is being booked into a Phoenix jail. The ambulance has since been returned to firefighters.
Kutis says he was arrested on charges of theft of means of transportation, felony flight, failure to yield to police and disorderly conduct.
She did not know why Lopez was hospitalized.
She says Lopez, who felt he was being hospitalized against his will, is being booked into a Phoenix jail.
The ambulance was returned to firefighters.
