She is just 20 years old, but has become Britain's youngest lawmaker defeating a Goliath, one of UK's most senior politicians, according to indianexpress.com.

Mhairi Black of the Scottish National Party ousted Labour heavyweight Douglas Alexander in the seat of Paisley and Renfrewshire South. Alexander, 47, was the opposition Labour's spokesman for foreign policy affairs. Mhairi lopped off the shadow foreign secretary's huge 16,000 majority to win by a comfortable margin of 5,684 votes, according to independent.

"This is a real chance," she said. "Things like this don't come along very often."

She was on a high over "a seismic shift" in Scottish politics. Alexander, was not too thrilled, but he said he was "confident, not complacent", admitting that some polls had produced "a challenge".

Black is the youngest lawmaker after Christopher Monck, who was 13 when he won a seat and entered Parliament in 1667.

She is a member of the SNP wave sweeping Scotland. Her party supports independence for Scotland, but had only six seats before yesterday's election. Now it is expected to sweep the polls in Scotland, taking almost all the 59 seats---mostly from Labour.

Her victory speech was warm about Alexander. "While I appreciate that this is a blow from Douglas Alexander, I truly hope he will remain to see his future in politics once he has recovered from this result," she said, according to theguardian.

The rule goes that in UK, those who stand for Member of Parliament need to be over 18 and also be a Briton, or a Commonwealth citizen, or Irish.
