‘The Mindy Project’ Canceled by Fox, could be Headed for Hulu
"The Mindy Project" has officially been canceled by Fox after three seasons.
Despite the seemingly sad news, the show's creator and lead actress, Mindy Kaling does not seem too beat up about it. According to the latest reports, "The Mindy Project," which is a romantic comedy TV series about a group of gynecologists and nurses who work in a private office might be headed for Hulu.
The Hollywood Reporter cited sources stating that studio Universal Television, which owns the rights to the show, is in talks with the online streaming website about a multi-year deal. Although both partners involved declined to comment about these rumors, sources added that Hulu will most likely pick up two seasons of the critically acclaimed show.
"I just think there are more stories," Kaling had said before finding out that Fox opted out. "I do think there's more to tell, and I think fans would be disappointed not to see more adventures with these characters. But I came from a show [The Office] that I was on for eight seasons, and it continued for another year after that, so I am accustomed to long runs of television shows. I would be up for that challenge."
THR added that former Fox president Kevin Reilly and Kaling discussed potential plans on bringing the comedy over to TBS, which Reilly controls. Bravo, which is owned by NBCUniversal, also reportedly expressed interest. However, it seems like Hulu was the platform that came out on top. Hulu already streams old episodes of "The Mindy Project" via its Hulu Plus service.
Kaling stars opposite Chris Messina. The show also stars Ike Barinholtz, Ed Weeks, Beth Grant and Adam Pally.
