Chicago Bulls Rumors: Organization ‘can’t wait’ to fire Tom Thibodeau
A new Yahoo! Sports report surfaced Tuesday that the Chicago Bulls "can't wait' to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the organization has been obsessed with "ousting" him. Despite this report, Thibodeau, who finally has a healthy Bulls team, remains focused on the team.
Wojnarowski wrote, "Amid the twisted culture of Chicago's regime - where winning is losing, where success is failure - management can't wait to rid itself of one Tom Thibodeau. For everything Chicago management does to undermine the coach, this Bulls locker room has remained something rare in professional sports: unaffected and unrelenting."
On Monday, Thibodeau did not address the issues between him and the organization. Instead, he talked about the team's ability to contend for the title.
"They sense that you don't get these opportunities all the time," he said. "You've got to make the most of them. These guys are starting to build a chemistry. Whatever our circumstances are, we've got to go. This is it."
The coach added, "I want them to be mentally tough. In this league, it's so easy to get sidetracked. There's so much noise. Trades. Free agency. This. That. Whatever. To me, none of that is important. All that matters is what we think. Are we doing the right things every day? Are we putting the proper work in? Are we playing the right way? Practicing the right way? That's how you play well in this league. All that other stuff is just noise, it doesn't mean anything."
According to Wojnarowski, the relationship between Thibodeau and star player, Derrick Rose, will not save the coach's career this time. Thibodeau is expected to leave Chicago by this spring regardless of playoff results.
The Bulls won Game 1 of their series against the Cleveland Cavaliers 99-92. Game 2 will be on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. ET on TNT.
