Katy Perry to Perform at Super Bowl XLIX Half Time
Katy Perry, the "Roar" hitmaker, is all set to take the stage at half-time February1, 2015, at the Super Bowl XLIX.
Billboard confirmed the news of Perry's shortlisting citing some insider sources. Rumors about Perry performing at the upcoming Super Bowl had been doing the rounds since August.
"A deal is being hammered out for Katy to play the Super Bowl," an insider told Page Six. In fact, Perry even appeared on ESPN's "College GameDay" and partied with the Ole Miss crowd last weekend.
More recently, there was a lot of controversy about "Pay to Play" - a scheme by the NFL where the artists had to pay to perform at the event. The plan wasn't recived very well by the music industry.
Commenting on the scheme, Perry said on the show:
"I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
There is no news about NFL's scheme or whether Perry and her team is actually paying the NFL to take the stage on one of the most watched events of America.
Rihanna and Coldplay are also rumored to be playing at the event. While it is uncertain if those artists will feature at the event, Perry's performance has been confirmed.
Meanwhile, fans are excited about Perry performing at the Super Bowl. People are expecting Perry to belt out some of her world-chart-topping hits at the event and some even expect the show to be better than Bruno Mars' epic performance last year.
About 111.5 million tuned in to NBC to watch the previous superbowl from all around the world. The Red Hot Chili Peppers also performed along with Bruno Mars setting a new viewership record for the event, Time reports.
