One live stick of dynamite that was employed in a training exercise at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was left behind in an old plane for four days, according to rt.

Law enforcement officials said that the dynamite was found on Tuesday on a tarmac, inside the "Spirit of Seventy Six", a historic plane, part of the Flight Path Learning Center and Museum. It had been used for drills with trained canines and had been forgotten.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not allowed to speak publicly, said that workers on the tarmac found the stick when they saw the bright colors on it, according to abcnews.

It had been checked out of an "explosive storage container" that the Transportation Security Administration maintained at LAX for training. It had "a certain amount of TNT," according to LAX spokesperson Sgt. Belinda Joseph. Sources said that though the explosive was live it would require a detonator to go live.

Sergeant Joseph agreed that the LAX police are probing the incident.
