Ten militants jailed for life for Attacking Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is a young activist, fighting for the rights of girls in terms of education. She was awarded the Noble Peace Prize last year, alongside India's Kailash Satyarthi for risking their lives to fight for children's rights.
Malala Yousafzai, the educational activist, then 15, was shot in head by a Taliban gunman, as she headed home in her school van on the 9th day of October, 2012. The attackers claimed her to be 'an agent of the Jews' and 'anti-Islam'.
The convicted militants were identified as Zafar Iqbal, Adnan, Salman, Irfan, Hazrat Bilal, Izhar, Zafar Ali, Shaukat Ali, Ikram and Israr Rehman were arrested in September last year during raids in the Nawakaley, Ningolai and Fizagat areas of Swat. The militants involved in the 2012 attack against Malala Yousafzia were awarded life imprisonment by Anti Terrorism Court Judge Muhammad Amin Kondi of the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC), for planning and shooting the teenage educational activist in an attack that had triggered a global outcry.
Gul-e-Khandana, a women rights activist, said, "It is time all terrorists were punished seriously".
Abdullah, a young peace activist in Mingora, said the people of Swat, the hometown of Malala, had been waiting for this verdict. "Not only in the Malala case but all the terrorists arrested during the Swat operation should also be punished," he demanded.
Malala's lawyer was restricted from appearing before the public.
Malala Yousafzai now lives with her self-exiled family in Britain. She has continued her educational and has also won several awards for her contribution towards the society.
