Microsoft has acquired the touch screen technology company N-Trig. The company components are used in Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 tablets.

"Today we are excited to have acquired advanced digital pen technology from N-trig Ltd., with whom we've partnered closely for several years," Microsoft announced.

Reportedly, Microsoft already owns 6 percent of N-Trig through a 2009 investment.

It is not clear whether N-Trig will roll into Microsoft or continue to act as an independent company. The Israeli company has roughly around 200 employees.

A potential deal between Microsoft and N-trig was reported by Israeli financial newspaper Calcalist in February, WSJ noted.

For Microsoft this is the third acquisition of an Israeli company since November when it announced the acquisition of cybersecurity company Aorato Ltd. In January, Microsoft confirmed it had acquired text analysis company Equivio Ltd.
