Four-month-old Rescued From Nepal Debris
One four-month old baby was pulled out alive by rescue workers from a collapsed building in Bhaktapur town, about 22 hours after the horrific earthquake struck Nepal. It was a miracle, according to hindustantimes.
At first, the rescue workers and soldiers missed the baby as they searched frantically for survivors, Kathmandu Today newspaper reported on Wednesday.
When they heard the feeble cry of the baby, they all dropped their work and came to check him out. They removed the rubble carefully and found the dust-covered baby boy under the debris.
Identified as Sonit Awal, the little boy was said to be stable, without any internal or external injuries, according to globalnews.
Nepalese photojournalist Amul Thapa clicked the baby being pulled out. It was published and became popular in kathmandutoday, When Thapa first heard Sonit's cries, the baby was trapped under a wooden beam.
His nine-year-old sister had been minding him before the earthquake of a magnitude 7.8 temblor struck at midday Saturday, destroying many historic buildings in Bhaktapur at the east of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. The children's parents were both away from the spot. But fortunately, the girl managed to escape unhurt.
At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nepalese army soldiers pulled out little Sonit.
"When I saw the baby alive all my sorrow went. Everyone was clapping. It gave me energy and made me smile in spite of lots of pain hidden inside me," recalled Thapa.
Thapa said that the baby only had one or two small cuts over his brow.
