NFL Draft Rumors: Seattle Seahawks do not Plan on Exercising Bruce Irvin’s 2016 Option

The Seattle Seahawks will reportedly not pick up Bruce Irvin's fifth year option, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport first reported Wednesday night.

By not picking up the option, which cost $7.8 million, the 27-year-old linebacker will become a free agent after the 2015 season. Rapoport added that the Seahawks plan on resigning Irvin after the season is over. However, other reports are suggesting that Irvin might get traded.

NBCSports.com reported that Irvin could be headed to the Atlanta Falcons sometime over the next few days. Irvin, who is from Atlanta, would give the Falcons an edge rusher that they desperately need. Irvin would also be reuniting with coach Dan Quinn, who worked with Irvin when he was the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks.

In response to these reports, Irvin tweeted:

Irvin was a first round draft pick - 15th overall - in 2012.

Irvin had an impressive 2014 season. He started in 13 of 15 games and recorded 37 combined tackles with 6.5 sacks, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

The Seahawks have until Sunday to pick up the option. He will make $1.6 million this upcoming season.
