Rosie O’Donnell Custody Battle: Ex-Wife Criticizes O’Donnell’s Parenting Style
Rosie O'Donnell and her ex-wife Michelle Rounds are in the middle of a custody battle that is getting very ugly very fast.
Rounds, who filed for sole custody of their two-year-old daughter Dakota on Tuesday, recently took a shot at O'Donnell's parenting skills.
She said to Brooke Anderson with Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday, ""It makes me feel sad that it has come to this -- that Rosie and her publicist feel like they need to do this character assassination. I just want my child to have the best possible environment to grow up in, a normal life. Right now she's got 24/7 nannies over there at Rosie's house. I don't want my child to have a 24/7 nanny. She leaves the baby overnight with nannies, she has the monitor in the nanny's room."
Rounds added, "I'm at my daughter's every beck and call. I give her mild discipline instead of like carte blanche, do whatever you want, which is more or less how Rosie likes to do things."
TMZ is reporting that in the divorce case, Rounds is claiming that O'Donnell finishes a bottle of wine each night and smokes a lot of marijuana. Rounds also stated that O'Donnell lets her 19-year-old son throw parties where all the teenagers are allowed to drink.
In response to these claims, O'Donnell's rep told TMZ, "This is a distorted perception of Michelle's reality. It's sad in every way."
O'Donnell's rep also told PEOPLE that her estranged wife's decision to seek sole custody is "an absurd and desperate attempt to use a child for her own gain."
The rep added that all Rounds wants is O'Donnell's money.
In response to these claims, Rounds stated that she has her own money and has never needed O'Donnell's wealth. Rounds stated that she would walk away from the prenup money if O'Donnell granted her sole custody.
O'Donnell and Rounds got married in June 2012 and separated in November 2014. O'Donnell filed for divorce in February.
In the midst of the custody battle, Rounds was seen hand-hand with model Carmen Ortega. The pair looked happy when they left Madera Kitchen in L.A.
