Cleveland Cavs Kevin Love has Shoulder Surgery, out for 4-6 Months

Cleveland Cavaliers Kevin Love had surgery on Wednesday to fix his dislocated left shoulder, the team announced.

The surgery was done by Dr. David W. Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Love's recovery, which will be conducted by the Cavs, is projected to be four to six months long.

Love was injured during Game 4 of the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics. Love and Celtics center Kelly Olynyk got tangled up while chasing a loose ball. Olynyk yanked down on Love's arm and dislocated it. Olynyk has been suspended one game for his actions, which Love thought were intentional.

Right after the injury, Love grabbed his arm and ran into the Cavs' locker room. On Monday, Love's injury was listed as an acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising. On Tuesday, Cavs general manager David Griffin hinted that Love would miss the entire playoffs. Early reports suggested that Love would only miss this upcoming series.

"We were playing at a tremendous level and getting the full extent of Kevin, so it's very difficult to have that taken away from you," Griffin said this week. "At the same time, I think he realizes we're set up to potentially be pretty good in the future, and he's excited about being part of that, too."

Love's injury has sparked rumors once again about whether or not he will leave Cleveland in the summer. Although Love has repeatedly stated that he has no plans on leaving, many of the rumors believe that he wants to end up in Los Angeles.

Cavs teammate LeBron James stated that it would be premature to talk about Love's future with the team right now.

James said on Tuesday, "I don't think he's thought about the offseason or what he wants to do. I haven't had that conversation with him and I shouldn't have to have that conversation with him, especially right now when we're going through this challenge and this battle of trying to win a championship."

The Cavaliers will have to change up their game plan before playing the winner of the Chicago Bulls - Milwaukee Bucks series. On top of losing Love, the Cavs will not have J.R. Smith, who will serve a two game suspension for a backhanded slap that hit Jae Crowder in the face.
