Sam Smith announced on Instagram that he will be cancelling tour dates in Australia due to a vocal hemorrhage and that his doctor advised him to take a short break from singing.

According to Gossip Girl, the British crooner wrote on his social media page on Tuesday informing fans of the changes in tour schedules.

"I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour. I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal cords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me," the singer wrote.

This means the cancellation of shows at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Tuesday night together with his concerts in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, The New York Times said.

However, is expected to return to his prearranged schedules including his Asian tour of 'In The Lonely Hour' scheduled in Tokyo on May 7. He will also be touring in Europe and North America in July and August during the summer.

This is not the first ever health illness that the Grammy-award winner has experienced in his singing career. A report from Yahoo News remembered that the Stay With Me singer also cancelled a show in Toronto on September last year because of tonsillitis. Another cancelled show happened in Milan when he is reported to be suffering from laryngitis.
