Watch: Mother Smacks And Drags Off Rioting Baltimore Son
Baltimore's police battalion that made 200 arrests---while 144 vehicles were torched and 15 structural fires blazed---were simply no match for a huge inferno that stomped into the crowd, according to etonline
One angry mother.
WMAR shot a video of Toya Graham dragging her son out, which began to blow up the social media. It is now being shared under the hashtag 'Mom of the year' and has gone viral.
On a TV program the mother had noticed her son throwing rocks, and then ran to grab and get him. He was wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack, and someone recorded her repeatedly smacking him upside the head and getting on a "profanity-ridden rant" before she dragged him away, according to eonline.
He was scolded thoroughly. "You're gonna be out here doing this nonsense?" the mom can be heard saying. "Get over here now!"
She was identified and interviewed by cbs on Tuesday after becoming an internet sensation the night before.
She said: "He gave me eye contact, and at that point, not even thinking about cameras or anything like that... That's my only son and at the end of the day, I don't want him to be a Freddie Gray."
"Is he a perfect boy?" asked cbs.
She answered: "No he's not. But he's mine."
The Maryland mother, who is single and has five other children, recognized her son even though his face was hidden behind a black ski mask.
She said: ''He knew he was in trouble. At that point, I just lost it. I was shocked, I was angry, because you never want to see your child out there doing that."
However, not everyone likes her for her action. Many say that she should not have embarrassed her son publicly.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts is on her side, though. During a press conference, he mentioned her and added: "I wish I had more parents who took charge of their kids tonight."
