Len Blavatnik, American Music Boss, Named UK's Richest Man
What---and anyway why---should you know all about the Warner Music owner Len Blavatnik?
Because he is Britain's richest man who earns £13.17 billion, records The 2015 Sunday Times Rich List, according to bbc.
He has dethroned the top brothers Sri and Gopi Hinduja, who are now worth £13bn! The Queen too has dropped off from the top 300!
Blavatnik calls himself "a major American industrialist", yet his personal and business roots are still in Odessa, Ukraine. He uses a yacht to throw lavish parties at the Cannes film festival, which is named after the city of his birth, according to theguardian.
Blavatnik has invested in resources ranging from metals and oil to music publishing and digital media. His London home is worth £41m and he has donated £75m to Oxford University, so that they can start the Blavatnik School of Government.
The survey said that the total wealth of UK's top 1,000 individuals and families bounded upto the double the figures 10 years ago. It now touches £547bn.
Today there are 117 billionaires on the list from 104 in 2014. There are 80 wealthy owners in London. But according to Reuters, new money is "flooding" into Britain, which is pushing Britons down the rich list.
The "highest risers in terms of wealth" are the retail family headed by Galen and George Weston, who are the owners of Selfridges and Primark in the UK. Their wealth has expanded by £3.7bn at an annual rate of 50% to £11bn.
To get into that charmed list of 1000 rich people, you need to have a personal fortune of £100m, up £15m compared with last year's entry point of £85m.
That is a princely rise indeed, as in 1997 you could have had to own just £15m to join the wish list.
