Police officer gives mom a car seat instead of ticket [VIDEO]
A Michigan mom got the surprise of her life when she was stopped by a traffic officer for driving with her 5-year-old without a car seat. Instead of getting a ticket for breaking the law, the kind traffic officer bought her a car seat.
The mom, Lexi DeLorenzo, called the experience "unforgettable" - and recalled that her heart sank when she saw the police officer approach.
"When I spoke to [DeLorenzo], she was very forthcoming and knew that the child should be in a booster seat," Officer Hall told FOX 17 News. "She admitted that she was wrong and that she had recently fallen on hard times."
Instead of ticketing DeLorenzo, Officer Hall told her to meet him at a nearby Walmart so he could buy a booster seat for her daughter.
"It was the easiest 50 bucks I ever spent," said Officer Hall. "It's something that anybody in the same position, in our position, would do. I in no way, shape or form expect to be paid back. It is a 'pay it forward' situation completely."
A store employee took photos of Hall purchasing the seat and the police officer has been overwhelmed by the public reaction after the pictures were posted on the police department's Facebook page. Hundreds of people have left comments praising Hall's actions. He's just glad he could help the family.
DeLorenzo told the officer that she was currently going through a rough patch.
Her fiancé lost his job in July and was recently diagnosed with cancer, she said. The couple has been living paycheck to paycheck on her part time income and their car was repossessed in August.
