Jodi Arias Prison Life: Somber Murderess Locked in a 12 by 7 Cell for 23 Hours a Day

Jodi Arias' first few years of life in prison will be far less glamorous than her trial-years.

Arias is expected to spend a solitary existence first few years before her good behavior can be recognized for perks like interacting with other inmates. At the Arizona State Prison Complex Perryville near Goodyear, Arias would be locked in a 12 by 7 cell for 23 hours a day. She will be allowed to spend one hour in a holding facility and see other inmates but won't be allowed near them.

Arias was sentenced to life without parole following a two-and-half-year trial that saw two juries disagree on the death penalty for her. Arias' plea for parole after 25 years in prison was turned down. Arias was convicted for the murder of Travis Alexander in 2008 at the latter's home in Mesa, Arizona. Alexander's body had close to 30 stab wounds and a gunshot injury. Arias' trial received widespread attention in media given the various twists to it.

The only diversion Arias can avail in prison is a television with 15 channels, if she can afford it. She won't have too many visitors in the beginning but that could change later. Following first few years of her incarceration, Arias can work in the prison that would entitle to earnings up to 50 cents an hour. She could also participate in origami and recreational activities at the prison if her behavior is found satisfactory. Good behavior could in fact see her out with the general population in 19 years.
