YouTube Won't Be Supported On Pre-2013 Devices Anymore

Google is retiring its Data API v2 for YouTube, meaning that a long list of smart devices manufactured in 2012 or before will no longer have functioning YouTube apps.

The notice of retirement of the API v2 was given by Google in March 2014 and a migration guide for developers was also made available in September last year.

"As we upgrade the YouTube Data API to bring more features, we'll begin shutting down the old version on April 20, 2015. This will result in the current YouTube app not working on certain device models from 2012 and older," YouTube announced.

In-spite, a number of devices are going to lose functionality, including Google TV version 3 or 4, 2nd-gen Apple TV, Sony and Panasonic smart TVs, Blu-ray players, devices supporting iOS 6 or earlier and gaming consoles that don't have inbuilt Flash or HTML5 support.

Now, if you want continued access to the YouTube app, you will have to update iPhones, iPads and iPads to iOS 7 at least. 3rd-gen Apple TVs also need a platform upgrade. For Google TV version 3 or 4, latest app update available on Google Play should suffice.
