San Francisco 49ers Alex Boone Says Jim Harbaugh ‘Might be Clinically Insane”

San Francisco 49ers lineman Alex Boone has made some very honest comments about his former head coach, Jim Harbaugh.

Boone revealed, in a preview of the Tuesday episode of HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," his real thoughts in regards to Harbaugh, who parted ways with the 49ers at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Boone said:

"He does a great job of giving you that spark, that initial boom. But after a while, you just want to kick his ass. ... He just keeps pushing you, and you're like, 'Dude, we got over the mountain. Stop. Let go.' He kind of wore out his welcome. I think he's a better college coach than he would be as an NFL coach. It's different for college kids than pro players. I don't think college kids can say, 'Hey, Jim, you're pissing me off today.'

I think he just pushed guys too far. He wanted too much, demanded too much, expected too much. You know, 'We gotta go out and do this. We gotta go out and do this. We gotta go out and do this.' And you'd be like, 'This guy might be clinically insane. He's crazy.'"

Boone's latest assessment of Harbaugh is a complete 180-degree turn. Back in September, when the rumors that Harbaugh's run with the 49ers was ending first surfaced, Boone was one of the 49ers who backed Harbaugh up.

He told 95.7 at that time, "I know for a fact that everybody loves Harbaugh. He's a great guy. How can you not want to win for a guy that wears cleats during the game? Come on now. Have you not seen that guy's energy? He's excited 24-7. You've got to love to play for a guy like that. That's what football is all about."
Harbaugh, who landed the job as head coach at his alma mater, the University of Michian, addressed the reports that he is difficult to work with.

The 51-year-old coach said to HBO, "It must be true. Because I'd wear out my welcome. People just don't want to be around you for a while."

Harbaugh will have a fresh start with the Wolverines.
