Taylor Swift's Mom, Battling With Cancer, Gives Emotional Speech At ACM Awards 2015; Says She's A Proud Mom
Though she has announced to say goodbye to the country music genre months ago, Taylor Swift is still one of the seven recipients of the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award. Her presence in the awards night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas got more special with the presence of her mom who is previously announced to be battling with cancer.
"I've seen [music] carry her through every emotion...good or bad," Andrea Swift noted, audibly choking up as she added, "For many years I was her constant companion. I witnessed a girl with very few friends become one with many, learning to stand up for the things she believes in. Being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity...Giving herself to those in need," Andrea Finlay said her voice quivering with emotion, Yahoo News said.
"I am a very proud mom. I thank the entire music community for taking such good care of her. And to the fans, I know you love her as I love her. And for that, I thank you eternally," she added.
According to Health 24, the Blank Space singer sadly announced on Tumblr about her mom's illness on April 9.
"The results came in and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she [Taylor's mom] wanted you to know," the singer said in a lost post in social media.
Meanwhile, Swift who is said to have received criticisms for turning her back on the country music genre expressed her thanks to the country music community present that night, Washington Post said.
"Somebody once told me that you truly see who a person is when you tell them something they don't want to hear. You truly see who a person is when you give them news that they weren't expecting. And so to the country music community, when I told you that I had made a pop album and that I wanted to go explore other genres, you showed me who you are with the grace you accepted that with. I will never forget it."
