You Can Now Backup WhatsApp Chats on Google Drive Directly [Android]

WhatsApp users on Android can now backup their chats directly on Google Drive. The latest update, version 2.12.45 which is only available via APK mirror at the time of writing, has this feature.

WhatsApp allows users to set the frequency at which they want their chats to be backed-up. Users, can also set if the backing up should take place on Wi-Fi or on cellular networks as well.

Users, however, need to link their Google account with the app (obviously).

Having the option of backing-up data on Google Drive is a welcome feature. Since the Google Drive is basically cloud storage, users won't have to worry much about losing data should their memory card or computer's hard drive crashes.

Folks at Android Police pointed that the daily backup option happens everyday at 4am, so if something happens before than, the latest data won't be saved.

The initial backup will upload everything onto Google Drive, but subsequent backups will only upload what has been changed, so you don't have to worry about redundancy or duplicates, noted UberGizmo.
